MO SHOPPING: HIP 229 FTNOV

Wed, 10/24/2018 - 20:47

A stakes winning and graded placed daughter of Uncle Mo, Mo Shopping is the first foal of a very fast stakes winning and grade one performing dam.

A wide-margin maiden winner on the second of two starts at two, followed up with a two lengths allowance win on her debut at three, Mo Shopping gained a black-type win with a determined victory in the Light Hearted Stakes. She earned further black-type with thirds in the Delaware Oaks (G3) and the Beyond The Wire Stakes.

Mo Shopping is by spectacular Champion Two-Year-Old Uncle Mo. A world-record breaking sire sensation, Uncle Mo is already sire of 44 stakes winners from his first four Northern Hemisphere crops, 20 of them graded, including Champion Two-Year-Old and Kentucky Derby (G1) victor, Nyquist; the brilliant undefeated grade one winner Dream Tree; and other grade one winners Mo Town, Unbridled Mo, Gomo and Outwork, as well as trio of 2018 juvenile black-type scorers. This is the Indian Charlie/In Excess branch of the Caro line, which serves as an important outcross for many commercial sire lines.

The dam of Mo Shopping, the More Than Ready mare, Stopshoppingmaria was an extremely speedy and talented runner. Winner of the Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes off fractions of :21.15; and :43.77 for a final time of :55.48, Stopshoppingmaria broke her maiden at Saratoga at two by nearly 10 lengths in 1:09.87. She also took second to Champion Two-Year-Old Filly My Miss Aurelia in the Frizette Stakes (G1) and second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G2). Stopshoppingmaria is also dam of a two-year-old filly by Awesome Again, and has a yearling filly by Uncle Mo and a filly foal by Uncle Mo – both siblings to Mo Shopping.

Stopshoppingmaria is half-sister to Sand Ridge a three-time stakes winner and graded stakes placed, and stakes winner Dootsie, the granddam of First Lady Stakes (G1) victress Zipessa, and graded stakes winner Dearest. Mo Shopping’s granddam, stakes placed Skybox, a half-sister to grade two placed Royal Weekend, the granddam of stakes winner Sharp Secretary; to Ball Chairman, the dam of Champion Perfect Soul, winner of the Keeneland Turf Mile (G1); and to Orient Pearl, the granddam of Stephen Foster Handicap (G1) scorer Flashy Bull, or stakes winner Pink Viper, and granddam of Gronkowski, a stakes winner and runner-up to Justify in Belmont Stakes (G1) in 2018. Skybox is out of A Status Symbol, a stakes winning daughter of Champion Canadian Two-Year-Old Filly Queen Louie. This means that Mo Shopping’s offspring will have five straight black-type performing dams.

Currently a three-year-old, Mo Shopping is by Uncle Mo, and it’s worth noting that Uncle Mo’s offspring are not only stars at two and three, but have been performing well at four and up with at least eight of his first two crops earning black-type stakes victories as older horses, including graded scorers Mopotism, Unbridled Mo and Mo’ Green.

With that in mind it’s clear that Mo Shopping has exciting potential upside both as a runner and a broodmare.
